Like many other 24 year olds, Joshua Gibson was faced with limited employment opportunities due to a perceived lack of experience, together with his own internal struggles with anxiety and depression.
Joshua engaged with the services of Ostara Australia – Australia’s largest exclusively mental health not-for-profit organisation who offer individualised employment services to job seekers facing any mental or emotional challenges.
Collaborating with Ostara Australia Employment Coach Jon, Joshua received guidance throughout the interview cycle and the finer details of the recruitment process. This included resume/cover letter writing, how to effectively respond to selection criteria, exposure to broader job search channels and mock interviews, until he felt confident enough to apply for an estimator position at Bunnings.
Although this position was ultimately offered to someone else with more experience, the Hiring Manager was so impressed by Joshua’s professionalism and attitude that instead offered him a position working in production to gain more hands on experience with view to later acquiring a role within the company as a truss and wall estimator.
In addition, Joshua voluntarily undertook a 5 week Resilience Training Program which forms part of Job College with Ostara Australia’s Senior Job College Facilitator, Deb Marven.
“It was wonderful seeing Joshua come in for the Resilience Program. Each week, he held his head a bit higher, had a larger smile, and eagerly told me the actions he had taken and the positive shifts that had taken place from the week before. Learning about Joshua’s interview and job success after the program was no surprise, based on his outlook and enthusiasm” said Deb.
Ostara Australia offers job seekers like Joshua ongoing support and training, even after a job has been secured. You can visit Ostara Australia at the 2018 Care Expo by registering online for your FREE pass to attend!
