When it comes to taking care of our physical and mental health, welfare and apperance, it all stems from our lifestyle choices. This becomes a part of our routine, priorities and day-to-day life. But when that moment comes when we realise and accept we have aged, other elements of care must be reviewed. For seniors, accessing quality care and understanding of options can certainly be tricky, and there becomes a strong need for more assistance, attention, love, understanding, and, more significantly, quality seniors care.
When connecting and forming one’s care community, you deserve to select from only the best. Outstanding care stems from putting people first and nurturing great connections, and the 2023 Care Expos are ready to showcase the absolute best in senior’s care. Through high-quality experts and products on display across sectors of health, seniors, disability, aged, support and wellness, no matter who you are and how care looks to you, WE CARE.

The Melbourne Care Expo team and Victoria Transport have combined forces to ensure improved transport options for this year’s Melbourne Care Expo on 11th – 12th August at the Melbourne Showgrounds, providing access to inclusive transport right up to the event’s front door!
With such a large turnout of attendees at the 2022 event, many patrons expressed challenges accessing the premier health and wellness event – with organisers determined to ‘get on the right track’ for 2023.
The train station within the Melbourne Showgrounds will be specifically opened across the two days to provide a closer stop, with a continuous bus shuttle then operating from the station to the front doors of the Melbourne Care Expo at the 01 Exhibition Pavilion. Metro Trains and Yarra Trams will also be running additional services to the showgrounds for the Expo.
Australian Events Operations Manager, Caleb Kirby, says the improvements have been made with attendees front of mind.
“We’ve listened to our patrons and exhibitors, taken on their feedback and worked hard to ensure this year’s events has the most efficient, accessible and vast array of options when it comes to transport to the Melbourne Showgrounds.
“There will not only be an increased range of options, but a targeted focus on accessible and support driven assistance.
“We will ensure you arrive smoothly to the event so that you can fully involve yourself in the exhibits, presentations and experiences – connecting you to the health resources you need to thrive.”
Trains will run a service from Flinders Street Station to Melbourne Showgrounds, stopping at Southern Cross and North Melbourne stations. The Tram Route 57 will have additional services from Elizabeth St/Flinders Street to Melbourne Showgrounds/Epsom Road via Royal Children Hospital and Racecourse Road.
On top of additional transportation options, the teams are working to coordinate increased support on the ground, working with organisations who can assist with mobility and accessibility at major stations.
Car parking options will again be available the Carnival Car Park within the Melbourne Showgrounds but may be limited.
Further information and transport frequency details will be confirmed in the months leading up to the August event.
Melbourne Care Expo will be held 11th – 12th August 2023, bringing in the best in health, wellness, and support, and connecting you to the care community.

We all know that keeping active regularly is good for our physical, mental health, and wellbeing. But with busy weeks, families, jobs and responsibilities, it can be hard to prioritise exercise, which can place our health at risk. While the amount of required physical activity varies depending on someone’s age, meeting your minimum health goals can be as easy as getting up and reaching a daily step target.
A number of major health organisations and groups encourage people to take up the 10,000 steps challenge, setting the specific target for individuals to reach each day. But many have asked, where does the 10,000 steps number come from and does it result in targeted health benefits by taking that many steps a day? Is this a myth or is it factual?
It is reported that regular walking can reduce your risk of common health problems including diabetes, high blood pressure, depression, obesity and heart disease*.
While there is no specific step count number that is preferred by health specialists, the idea of having a fitness goal that suits each individuals needs can be that goal that keeps us accountable each day. So, you could pick a goal like 10,000 steps, see if it is achievable and observe how it makes you feel when incorporated into your day. The power of small wins goes a long way!
The Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care recommends 2.5 to 5 hours of moderate intensity physical activity each week, such as a brisk walk*.
10,000 steps can seem like a daunting mission, especially for those who have jobs that require sitting more than active movement. But there are a number of ways that you can pick up that step count, without too much extra effort in your day-to-day!
Pick a further parking spot and walk.
Schedule a reminder to get up for a walk during the work day.
Use the stairs instead of an escalator.
Walk instead of driving for short trips.
