Friday 4th & Saturday 5th October

10:00am – 10:45am

Presenter: Dr Padmini Saxena. Director – Provider and Market Relations QLD,, National Disability Insurance Agency.

Presentation Title: School Leavers Employment Supports (SLES) for NDIS Participants

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funds reasonable and necessary supports for people who have a permanent and significant disability who have met access requirements to become NDIS participants. NDIS participants are assisted to achieve their goals and aspirations through an individualised NDIS plan.

As gaining employment is one of those goals for many school leavers, some NDIS participants require additional support to transition from school to being ready to seek open employment with the assistance of a Disability Employment Service (DES). For NDIS participants who are Year 12 school leavers, School Leaver Employment Support (SLES) has been introduced as an early intervention approach for Year 12 School leavers. Designed to support in the transition from school to employment, SLES aims to deliver vocational skills development and contribute to the participant achieving an employment outcome. SLES may include job skills, travel and communication training.
This session will provide information about NDIS School leaver Employment Supports (SLES). This session would be of interest to prospective or current NDIS participants who are recent or soon to be school leavers. It would also be of beneficial for providers who are interested in delivering school leaver employment supports (SLES) to NDIS participants.
