The Australian Government is investing $550 million to provide free services for carers from April 2020. Wellways Australia is the first point of contact Carer Gateway services in Queensland, South West Sydney and Nepean Blue Mountains.
These services are available for anyone who supports a family member or friend who has a disability, mental health condition, chronic health condition, terminal illness or is frail aged.
These services, being delivered through the Carer Gateway, have been designed based on evidence provided by carers, service providers and peak bodies to improve the quality of life of carers. Some supports are similar to what you may have accessed in the past and others are newly developed.
Carer Gateway services include support planning, assistance navigating government and non-government schemes, in-person support, in-person counselling, financial packages and emergency respite.
Wellways are pleased to have the opportunity to deliver these supportive and practical supports to carers in Queensland, along with our consortia partners Dementia Australia, Little Dreamers, selectabilty and North and West Remote Health.
Wellways has been working with carers for the past 40 years and since our services began we have recognised that carers require support in their own right. We look forward to engaging with carers to chat about what Carer Gateway services and supports could look like for them.
